girls just wanna have fun 150x15020th Century Fox is gearing up for another remake of a campy 80’s flick.  This time, its not Flash Dance, or even Porky’s for that matter, but the lesser known, Girls Just Want to Have Fun

The original film starred Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and The City) and  Helen Hunt ( Twister, As Good As It Gets) as two best friends friends with a love for dancing.  In the original movie, Parker played a young girl who moved into town and became friends with Hunt’s character through a shared interest in dancing and a love for a television show called Dance TV.

During the film, the girls find out that Dance TV will be broadcasting in their town and they become determined to perform on the show at the disapproval of one of the girl’s parents. The film is currently being written by Helen O’ Hara and no word on a release date as of yet.

Let’s just hope this remake will not be as cheesy as the original 80’s film that Parker and Hunt would surely wish everyone would just forget!  On a side note, I wish that writers and studios would stop re-hashing the 80’s out to us and give us new, fresh ideas… but maybe that is just wishful thinking.

As always,  MuveePRO will keep you updated on this new film and all your favorite 80’s remakes ,that is if you are even old enough to remember the 80’s!

alien 150x150If you haven’t had enough of horror remakes ( Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday the 13th , Halloween,etc..) well guess what… horror fans, you’re in for yet another classic to be revamped.

The Internet is a buzz that 20th Century Fox is gearing up for a remake of Alien. Earlier this year, Bloody-Disgusting.com broke a story stating that Fox was revamping Predator, so its really no real surprise that the studio is trying to restart the Alien series as well.

According to reports, the film will go back to the originals roots and only use one alien, which will terrorize the hell out of everyone trapped on a spaceship. Ridley Scott, the director of the first Alien film, is rumored to be on-board to produce the film.

As of now, little is known about the status of the film’s development. However, early rumors have suggested that writers will once again incorporate Ripley into the film.

The original Alien film debuted in 1979 and spawned several successful followups, along with two spin-off films. MuveePRO will continue to add developments on the film’s progress as they become available. Until then, just remember that, in space, no one can hear you scream!

carl_fredricksen Let me first state that I do not typically enjoy cartoon films nor do I partake in the  viewing of Disney films.  However, this past weekend I took a leap of faith and caught a viewing of Disney Pixar’s Up

The main character, Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) is an elderly man who has recently lost his wife and finds himself lonely and craving a great adventure like he once dreamed of during his childhood. I must say that the first fifteen minutes of the film are extremely heartbreaking, which is something I honestly did not expect going into this kind of film. I truly felt like I could relate to the main character’s loss and sadness.

During the film, Carl Fredricksen begins to slowly lose his dream house and neighborhood he once enjoyed with his wife, as the surrounding area begins to be redeveloped into a metropolitan area. Fredricksen finds himself in a bitter battle with a construction company that wants to buy his house from him and use his land to further their development of the area.

At the same time as Fredricksen’s bitterness towards the change he is encountering, he finds himself being annoyed by a local boy scout named Russell.  Carl and Russell’s relationship grows into a loving grandfather and grandchild relationship as the film develops and as the two go on a wild adventure through the sky.

I must say that, while Up admittedly is not my usual type of film, I really enjoyed it. Disney has truly created a story that adults and children can relate to and enjoy together as a family. The film’s writing and voice acting is top notch and I would suggest to Ed Esner to start getting award speeches ready for award season because his voice acting,  without question, helped make this film as great as it truly is.

The story, as a whole, may have been predictable to some if you’ve seen most Disney Pixar films, but one can not deny that the film’s plot is completely original and its the heart the film conveys with its originality that makes Up one of the best films of the year!

drag me to hell main Yep, I got the chance to watch Sam Raimi’s return to horror, Drag Me To Hell last night and, to say the least, I am pleased.

I think that the film really followed along the lines of The Evil Dead in regards to humor and “ew” moments. There were some nasty-funny scenes and some scenes that were just plain gross. You would have to see it to know what I mean. Anyway, let’s dive in.

Please be aware that there are spoilers below. Navigate away now if you do not want to read anything about the film before you see it.

Drag Me To Hell begins with a cursed boy being dragged to hell as a woman and his family tries to save his him. We then pick up several years later with a Loan Officer, named Christine (Alison Lohman), who is desperatly battling to obtain a promotion at her bank job.

When an old woman ends up at her desk and requests an extension on her house, the choice is left up to Christine. In light of trying to get the promotion she wants so badly, she denies the old woman an extension. As the woman begs, Christine backs away and calls for security, “shaming” the old woman.

After work, Christine is heading to her car as some crazy things start happening and the old woman appears, seemingly trying to kill her. After the humorous, nasty battle ends, the old woman places a curse on a Christine’s coat button and gives it back to her.

Throughout the next several scenes, weird, crazy, and nasty things take place forcing Christine to convince her boyfriend, Clay (Justin Long) to take her to someone that may be able to help. After they realize she is cursed, Christine tries everything to rid herself of it.

She even visits the house of the old woman, finding that she has suddenly passed away. When it seems she is running out of options, she opts to sacrifice her kitten. Next, Christine and Clay travel to Clay’s parents house to have dinner. Thinking that she has rid herself of the curse, Christine begins to impress Clay’s family.

However, the curse has not been lost. Christine evetually ends up back at the woman’s house we saw at the beginning of the film, and tries to summon and destroy the evil spirit trying to consume her. When this fails, Christine learns that she must give the cursed object to someone else to transfer the curse.

She then ponders upon several candidates and ultimately decides to give it back to the old woman. She digs up the body, gives her the button and all seems fine. However, it seems the envelope with the button in it had been switched, and Christine finally meets her end.

Overall, this was an enjoyable film by Sam Raimi. I’m not sure of any area of improvements, other than maybe placing an R rating and vamping up on the gore. If you haven’t seen Evil Dead and don’t know what to expect… my advise is to watch Evil Dead first.

Be advised–this is nothing like Spider-Man. Let us know what you think after you’ve seen it.
